Yurok Wellness Programs
The Yurok Wellness Program
comprises both residential and outpatient services for Alcohol and Substance Abuse Treatment.
The program concentrates
on re-integrating the individual who has or has had alcohol and substance abuse issues back into Yurok Culture and
Yurok Tribal life. The Wellness Program's goal is to help Yurok Tribal Members into a crime and drug free
lifestyle. Case Managers and Community Workers work with Wellness Program clients to meet the terms
and conditions of their probation or parole including and in meeting requirements for substance abuse testing.
Wellness Program clients would petition the
Yurok Tribal Court for services and would have to submit to the jurisdiction of the Yurok Tribal Court. Alcohol
and substance abuse treatment is available through the Yurok Tribe Wellness Court with the petition by the Yurok Tribal Member
to the Yurok Tribal Court .
- Residential
treatment at the Friendship House in San Francisco for individuals in need of alcohol or substance abuse treatment.
- Family Wellness Program includes participation in Yurok Language classes.
- Services
include referral for GED testing, referral to transitional housing, referral for counseling and referral to vocational
training.
- Family Wellness also includes Yurok cultural and craft activities: Regalia making, Yurok Jewelry, Acorn Processing, Traditional Foods, Food Canning,Traditional Fishing,
Traditional Hunting,Bow Construction, Canoe Carving,Net Construction, Language and Instruction in Cultural Ceremony
Protocol.
Yurok
Tribal Members who have alcohol or substance abuse issues or on probation or parole are encouraged to contact the
Yurok Tribal Court to develop an individual program through the Yurok Tribe Wellness Program.
